Mandala Sun (Have You Seen God?)

mandalasun.jpg (33403 bytes)

This is a sculptures that evolved out of the void.  I loved the model’s butt on my  “Closer” sculpture and made a copy from it, but where do I go from there?  I turned it into a circular disc and thought I’d leave it like that as a “full moon”.   The hands were added in as an afterthought, like the design of a Navaho Indian Mandala Sun painting.  The gold gilded butt is accentuated by “Indian Summer” gilding on the hands.  I love the way this sculpture turned out.

A Mandala is an imaginary palace that is contemplated during meditation, representing some aspect of wisdom, reminding the meditator of some guiding principle.  The palace of my Mandala is "woman".  I find God in the shared union between the sexes.   To me that is spiritual enlightenment.
