Scar Tissue

scartissue.jpg (21595 bytes)

This sculpture was the original cast I did of Karen Ann for my "Fame" piece, but the alginate set before I had a chance to finish and I ended up with this mutated "monster" version.

I like the flowing shroud covering the disfigurement, because this lovely model could never be a monster, no matter what.  It seems to be more like a shroud of mourning...  for what we do not know.

I took the title from a song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.  Many of our scars in life are visible, but most are the emotional scars we carry with us, that nobody ever sees.

After my motorcycle accident, I can tell you a lot about both.

C'est la vie.

Our scars remind us, that the past is real;  I tear myself open, just to feel.
