Waiting for a Miracle

waiting.jpg (26641 bytes)

This is a series that I “conceived” almost a decade before its inception.

I simply had to find a model; which is a lot easier said than done.

I had done my first “belly cast” only a week before starting this.  My first model had been 8 months pregnant and I wished I had met her earlier.  The following day, I was talking to a friend, who was excited to tell me that her daughter, Kelly, had just announced she was pregnant. I’ve known their family for almost 2 decades and watched Kelly grew into a beautiful woman. What perfect timing, I thought! I asked if Kelly might be interested in posing for a full series of monthly casts and, ironically, Kelly had just seen a show on “Oprah” featuring belly casts and had called her mom to ask for my number.

This is the only set of castings that I’ve ever had to wait for.  As the days went by, we waited and watched the miracle of life as it progressed.  Because of that, it took a full year to complete this sculpture and I was very thankful to share that experience.
