This sculpture evolved
through several stages. The original idea was to have a young girl in repose with the bed
sheet in disarray. I did various upper torso casts with this lovely young
lady, but when it came time to cast her legs, modesty set in and she couldnt do it.
I decided to add the frame to create a
literal 3-dimensional portrait. My first attempt to paint it was as a white marble finish,
but it just seemed to get lost. Since the figure is rising up off of the canvas, I
decided to paint her as a flesh and blood piece and then cover the other half
of her as a modern painting, ala Jackson Pollack.
