In
Greek mythology, Pygmalion was a sculptor who fell in love with a statue he had carved of
Galatea. The goddess Aphrodite took pity on him and brought the statue to life, and he
married her.
As a sculptor, working with
so many beautiful models, I can sympathize with Pygmalion's plight. Working so
closely, for such long periods of time, with such a beautiful creation, its almost hard
not to fall in love in degrees. In fact, I think that this brief fleeting love
actually helps in the desire to create perfection.
Where is Aphrodite when you
need her?
I thought this was a
such wonderful painting by Jean Leon Gerome, that I wanted to include it here.
