Stranger in a Strange Land

A tribute to Leon Russell

paintings-stranger.jpg (206021 bytes)

I  had an opportunity to meet with the legendary Leon Russell, and I didn't want to go empty handed.   This painting is my tribute to Leon. Most people know of him as an amazing  singer and performer, whose eclectic taste won him fans in all genres. Unbeknownst to many, is Leon's incredible songwriting talents.  VH1 recently declared the Carpenter's "Superstar" to be one of the "Top 5 Love Songs" ever made.   That song was penned by Leon.  George Benson's cover of "This Masquerade" written by Leon was the first song in music history to occupy the number one spot on the jazz, pop, and R&B charts. It also won "Record of the Year" and a Grammy in 1976.  Ray Charles covered "A Song For You," and B.B. King covered "Hummingbird."   Leon Russell is pop music's most anonymous big shot.

A photo of Leon from the Concert for Bangladesh was used for this painting.

Shortly after presenting the painting to Leon, his Tour Coordinator asked me if he could use it on Leon's Discography page - http://www.cntdemosite.com/Discography.html
