All Alone Is All We Are

This is the 2nd in my Heaven and Hell” series - “Purgatory”.  Of course, Purgatory was officially canceled years ago, but I’ve always considered it more as a state of mind.

Here a soul is separated away from all else.  This soul doesn’t realize all it need do is crawl out of the box we create around ourselves to rejoin the world.   The title was borrowed from the tortured mind of Kurt Cobain.  It is a line in his song “All Apologies”...  and it fits all too well.

I was told this represents the Buddhist practice of “recapitulation". The monk will remove his robe and crawl naked inside of a box to meditate.

When a Soho gallery sold this sculpture, I rejoiced at the sale, but mourned the loss of a very personal piece.  Do all artists do this?
